Please Not McBush '08

Ok, I need to vent. I am so utterly pissed it's almost not right. I watched every single day of the Republican Convention. Heard every single speech, every single "USA, USA, USA" chant, every single brutal attack on a decent man, every single lie. It is so ridiculous, I am not sure if I can put it into words. I know for sure now that this country is about half sane and half completely and totally bonkers, and I don't know if I want to be associated with people like this anymore. I do not and never will understand how someone can cheer for a "hockey mom" who prides herself on hunting moose and making moose stew, or keeping polar bears off the endangered species list. I do not understand the reasoning for chanting "Drill, drill, drill" when we are in the midst of the worst environmental state in history. What happened to new technology and solar and wind power? Wouldn't that decrease dependence on foreign oil? Problem is, it would decrease their friends' bank account balance. I also do not understand the mockery made out of Obama's past occupation, as a city organizer. They absolutely cracked up over that. Is that not serving your community? I guess you have to shoot people in the face to be commended nowadays.
I am SO tired of feeling like an outsider a lot on this country. Mostly in terms of religion, which is completely disgraceful in a country that was built upon, and prides itself on, freedom of religion and the separation of church and state. I am Jewish, and I feel that there is way too much emphasis on the Christian morals and ideals in lawmaking. It has always been hard not having holidays off and things like that, but getting older, I have realized a lot of what Republicans fight for have to do with forcing Christian beliefs on the entire nation. Well, I am not into that. I do not think the founding fathers would be either. These thoughts really came to the forefront during this convention. There was a lot of talk about God and the like, and while I believe in the same God, I know that some do not. The Vice Presidential nominee even believes in teaching Creationism in the classroom. Excuse me, but NO. I am a scientist, and that is just not right. I just think it is really interesting that a party that constantly says put country first, and love the U.S. and what it was founded on, is completely hypocritical in this sense. Prime example: Palin, teaching abstinence-only sex education has an underage pregnant daughter. Just boggles the mind.
Also, I would love it if these people got off their whole war hero/mother of five gig and started talking about what they will actually do once elected. McCain kept emphasizing change and "shaking up Washington" (which he has been a part of for 25 odd years and has not changed a thing), yet he voted with Bush 90% of the time. I repeat, he agrees with 90% of what the WORST president in American history has to say. Change? Is he on crack? Republicans always make it about the person, the individual, mainly to hide their ludicrous ideas, to get the average uneducated joe to vote for them. So typical. His speech was terrible, he is not a good speaker, just like Bush. I am sick of the rest of the world saying we are stupid because our president can't form a sentence.
It's crazy that every word of Obama's speech made sense, and not only that, it was inspirational to the highest degree. He actually had a direction to take the country and had WAYS to get there. And it was DIFFERENT. I value education very highly and think that if children grew up with a highly educated president, they would be inspired to do the very same thing. I had not been a huge fan of his until his speech last week. After that speech, even during it, tears almost came to my eyes. It is amazing to imagine what a joy this country would be if he was elected, and I am looking forward to it more than anything. It would be like a breath of fresh air. He is the real change that we need and I would not be able to stand it if we had to deal with Bush #3 for another 4 years. I cannot take a 10% chance on change.
